The Pagosa Adventure Team is Heading to the Red Rock Balloon Rally!

The countdown has begun! The Pagosa Adventure team is thrilled to announce that we’re heading to the Red Rock Balloon Rally, one of the most anticipated hot air balloon events of the year. Taking place during the first weekend of December in Gallup, New Mexico, this incredible event promises a weekend filled with color, adventure, and breathtaking scenery—and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it!

What to Expect as Pilots

For us, the Red Rock Balloon Rally isn’t just another event; it’s a highlight of the year. Set against the stunning backdrop of Red Rock Park, we’ll be flying amidst the towering sandstone cliffs, vibrant desert landscapes, and winter’s crisp morning air. The area offers not only awe-inspiring views but also some unique flying challenges, including navigating the terrain and making precise landings in the vast, open spaces.

This rally is also special because of the incredible community spirit. From the warm welcome we always receive in Gallup to the camaraderie shared among pilots, crew, and sponsors, it’s a chance for us to connect with fellow ballooning enthusiasts and share our passion with others.

What the Crowds Can Anticipate

If you’re planning to attend the rally, prepare for a spectacle like no other! Hot air balloons, including our own Pagosa Adventure balloons, will take to the skies, creating a kaleidoscope of colors against the striking red cliffs. Here’s what you can look forward to as a spectator:

Morning Ascensions:

• • Each morning, the skies will come alive with balloons launching from the park. Bundle up, grab a cup of hot coffee from a local vendor on the field, and get ready to watch the magic unfold as dozens of balloons gently rise into the air, creating a breathtaking scene.

Friday Night Glow in the Rocks:

• • The iconic Glow in the Rocks event is a must-see! Balloons remain tethered on the ground but are illuminated by their burners, lighting up the night in a spectacular display that highlights the beauty of the sandstone cliffs. Not only will there be balloons in the Rocks but also First Nations dancers will be joining for traditional Native American dancing around a bonfire.

Meet the Pilots and Crew:

• • Balloon rallies offer a rare chance to get up close and personal with the balloons, pilots, and crew. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or snap photos—it’s all part of the fun!

Amigo RC Balloon Rodeo:

• • This year marks the debut of the Remote-Control Balloon Rodeo, adding a new layer of excitement to the weekend. These smaller-scale balloons are a fascinating sight and provide endless entertainment for attendees.
